Philippines Day-3 (01/22/25)

8:30 AM, we attended an Educational Forum on Cross-Cultural Understanding (CCU). Ma'am Irma was one of the speakers and delivered an insightful presentation on basic culture and religion in Indonesia. At the end of the session, she added a fun twist by giving the participants a quiz about her presentation. Those who answered correctly received a special Indonesian-themed brooch as a prize. There was also a beautiful performance of traditional Indonesian songs by the student-teachers who will soon visit Indonesia.

For lunch, we dined with Ma'am Irma, Ma'am Nurla, and some other lecturers. We enjoyed capcai and a sweet soy chicken dish from the Philippines (I can’t remember its local name!).

In the afternoon, we were introduced to the teachers at Labschool SLSU and shown the classrooms we’d be using for our teaching demonstrations. I was assigned to teach in a 7th-grade junior high school class. Alhamdulillah, the students in the class were super excited and engaged—I hope they continue to be so enthusiastic in the future!

As evening approached, we visited Balsa Café, a cozy spot nestled in the middle of rice fields, to celebrate the birthdays of Ma'am Irma and Ma'am Liliane. For dinner, we had chicken adobo (for the second time!), sweet and spicy fish, and my favorite dessert, halo-halo. This was actually my first time trying halo-halo, and I realized it’s pretty similar to the Indonesian dish es serut, though with a more diverse mix of ingredients. Hehe!
